QuickLaunch

Description

A while ago I was chatting with a friend on the Internet and he told me about a program on his Mac that allowed him to launch applications just by pressing a key combination, typing in the first few letters of the name and pressing enter. I thought: "What a cool idea!" Since I was working on AppExec at that time, I figured that I already had the application-launching base and that the idea would be simple to extend to a small utility such as the one he described. Amazingly, it was nearly as easy as I had expected. I use QuickLaunch every day and it saves me a lot of time. It's very nice to be able to press CTRL-ALT-F12, type "PROX" and press enter to quickly launch my proxy software when my parents need to use the Internet but I'm busy typing a message to post on a forum. So I decided to put it up here in the hope that it saves other people as much time and effort as it has saved me.

Current EXE Version #: 1.2.1

Target Platforms: Win95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP (has been tested only under Win95/98)

Download

The download is available in two ways: as a ZIP and as a self-extracting EXE. If you don't know how to unzip and move files, just download the EXE (the first link) to your computer and double-click on it. Click "Unzip" in the window that opens and QuickLaunch will automatically be installed in C:\AppExec (since it is an AppExec companion product, it needs to be in the same directory).

Visual Basic icon  NOTE: This project may require an extra file to work. If you are receiving errors when trying to launch this application, make sure that you have the following file in your \Windows\System directory before sending in an error report:

If you are missing the above file, click on the link to download a self-extracting version of it.
